What If Your Best Life Starts After 50? Midlife Reinvention and Alcohol Freedom

Divorce, empty nests, weight-loss surgery, career stress, and starting over... why the second half of life might be the perfect time to get Lit from the Inside.

What If You're Just Getting Started?

What if the most exciting chapter of your life hasn't happened yet?

For so many women, midlife arrives with unexpected changes. The kids leave home. A marriage ends. A career that once felt fulfilling becomes exhausting. Your body changes. Your priorities shift.

And somewhere in the middle of it all, you might find yourself wondering...

"Is this it?"

I want to offer a different possibility.

What if this isn't the beginning of the end?

What if it's the beginning of something extraordinary?

My First Solo Podcast... and a Confession

After nearly three years of co-hosting Sober & Lit, I'm stepping into a new chapter as the solo host.

And guess what?

I procrastinated recording my first episode!

I found plenty of other things to do because sitting behind that microphone alone felt scary.

But then I remembered something I tell my coaching clients all the time.

Confidence comes last.

We don't become confident by waiting until we're ready. We become confident by taking action, learning, and discovering what we're capable of.

Sometimes we have to step into the arena before we feel brave.

From the Wine Industry to Alcohol Freedom

I spent approximately twenty years working in the wine industry.

Wine was part of my career, my social world, and my identity.

I also struggled with my weight and eventually underwent bariatric surgery. After surgery, my relationship with alcohol became increasingly problematic.

What followed was a difficult period of confusion and shame.

I felt ashamed of my drinking. Ashamed of weight regain. Ashamed that I couldn't simply figure everything out.

But everything began to change when I stopped asking, "What's wrong with me?" and started getting curious about my relationship with alcohol.

In May 2019, I became alcohol-free.

And more than seven years later, the greatest gift isn't simply that I don't drink.

It's that alcohol no longer takes up so much space in my life.

Why Midlife Women Deserve More

I especially want to reach women who feel they've spent years putting themselves last.

Women navigating divorce, empty nesting, menopause, stressful careers, weight-loss surgery, or simply the realization that they want something different.

Maybe drinking has become your reward at the end of a long day.

Maybe it's how you cope with stress, loneliness, or uncertainty.

Maybe you've tried moderating and are exhausted by the mental negotiations.

You don't need a dramatic rock bottom to question any of that.

You can decide to change simply because you want more for yourself.

More energy. More connection. More confidence. More LIFE.

Getting Lit From the Inside

To me, getting lit doesn't mean drinking.

It means feeling alive.

It might be a cold ocean plunge, hiking a beautiful trail, laughing with friends, or waking up after a wonderful night's sleep.

It might be traveling somewhere new, falling in love again, starting a business, or discovering a passion you never knew you had.

Alcohol freedom isn't about making your world smaller.

It's about discovering how big your world can become.

Get Back in the Arena

Here's my invitation.

Ask yourself three questions:

  1. What do I really want in this next chapter?
  2. What's keeping me on the sidelines?
  3. What's one small step I can take this week?

You don't need to know the whole journey.

You only need to begin.

And if alcohol is something you'd like to explore, my Alcohol Freedom Academy begins again in November.

I also have a quiz specifically for women exploring the connection between weight-loss surgery and alcohol.

Both links are available in the show notes for this week's Sober & Lit episode.

Because it's never too late to change your drinking.

It's never too late to reinvent yourself.

And it's never too late to get Lit from the Inside.
