Sometimes alcohol freedom isn't the end of your story. It's what finally gives you enough space to discover the next one.

After nearly three years and 143 episodes together, Sober & Lit is changing.

Susan is stepping away as co-host to follow a calling that has become increasingly important to her... creating a space specifically for sober-curious Christian women and women of faith.

And I, Ruby, am continuing Sober & Lit as its solo host.

It's exciting.

It's sad.

It's scary.

It's right.

In other words... it's life.

Look How Far We've Come

When Susan and I started this podcast, neither of us could have predicted where it would take us.

We wanted to normalize living alcohol-free and challenge the idea that giving up alcohol meant giving up fun.

We wanted women to hear something different:

Life without alcohol can actually become MORE interesting.

More connected.

More adventurous.

More LIT.

We talked about anxiety, emotions, relationships, shame, health, mocktails, sex, purpose, gray-area drinking and the messy middle of being human.

We interviewed authors and leaders we'd admired from afar.

We laughed... a LOT.

And eventually this little podcast we created was nominated for an award in the sober community.

Talk about a pinch-me moment.

Confidence Comes Last

One of the biggest lessons I realized while recording our final episode together had almost nothing to do with alcohol.

Confidence comes LAST.

When my first microphone arrived, I was intimidated by the box.

Seriously.

Who was I to have a podcast?

How did any of this equipment work?

Could I really interview people?

Could I actually become a podcaster?

I didn't become confident and THEN start.

I started... and eventually became confident.

There's a lesson in there for all of us.

Maybe you're waiting to feel confident enough to question your drinking.

Or go to the party alcohol-free.

Or ask for help.

Or start something new.

You don't need confidence first.

Take the next step.

Confidence can catch up.

Alcohol Freedom Is About More Than Alcohol

We've interviewed so many people who have chosen alcohol-free lives.

And something fascinating happens again and again.

Their stories don't end with:

“And then I stopped drinking.”

That's where another story begins.

They write books.

Start businesses.

Repair relationships.

Discover passions.

Change careers.

Become coaches.

Start podcasts.

Alcohol had been occupying so much mental, emotional and physical space that when it became smaller... something else had room to grow.

That's why my mission for Sober & Lit isn't changing.

Make alcohol small.

Make life BIG.

Two Women. Two New Roads.

Susan felt increasingly called to bring her faith more directly into her work. Following that calling meant letting go of something she loved.

Sober & Lit.

That's incredibly brave.

And her decision required me to make one too.

Do I let Sober & Lit end?

Or do I step forward alone?

I've decided to step forward.

I'll continue bringing you fascinating guests and vulnerable stories, but I'll also be experimenting with solo episodes, coaching stories, shorter how-to conversations and the questions I'm hearing from real women who are examining their relationships with alcohol.

I want to talk about the messy middle.

And I especially want to talk about what comes AFTER alcohol begins getting smaller.

Who are you becoming?

What do you want?

What makes you feel alive?

What could this next chapter of YOUR life look like?

This Isn't Goodbye

There's one thing Susan and I have learned through hundreds of conversations about alcohol freedom:

There is so much hope.

You don't need to hit rock bottom.

You don't need to label yourself.

And you don't have to figure everything out today.

You can simply start getting curious.

Because alcohol can become smaller.

And your life can become so much bigger.

Susan and I are both discovering that right now.

Different roads.

New chapters.

And I have a feeling we're both just getting started.
